20.-24.09.2010 Workshop on Systems and Architectures for Computer Assisted Interventions (MICCAI 2010, China National Convention Center, Beijing, China)

The goal of this workshop is to establish a forum for discussing open interfaces, interoperability, and standards for the development of computer assisted intervention systems. This topic was chosen based on overwhelming interest expressed at the "Systems and Architectures" workshop at MICCAI 2008 and 2009. The 2008 workshop focused on toolkits; in 2009 it emphasized the importance of open interfaces and standards. In 2010, we will focus on "Modularization and Standardization of CAS Systems and Frameworks". As before, this workshop will include strong participation from industry and academia.

01.-02.07.2010 Second VCBM Workshop, Leipzig

Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine addresses the integration of state-of-the-art visualization and image analysis for application to research in biology and medicine. Integrating visualization and image analysis brings with it particular challenges, but also yields new possibilities, especially when extended for application to the wide gamut of research topics in biology and medicine, such as molecular imaging, quantitative longitudinal studies, pre- and intra-operative surgical guidance, and the diverse field of system biology.

VCBM is unique in that it will bring together researchers and practitioners from visualization, image processing and biology and medicine. We expect to attract a number of attendees with biological and medical backgrounds, as well as from the surrounding academic medical centers. This will pose a unique opportunity to showcase the latest ideas from engineering and science, to get feedback from biological and medical practitioners, and to explore new possibilities for cooperative research.

23.06.2010 Tutorial "Surgical Workflow" at CARS, Geneva Switzerland

The term "Surgical Workflow (S-WF)" is used in a variety of contexts and for different purposes, each having one thing in common: Modeling the processes in the Operating room.

The approaches to this are manifold: From human or technical observation of the surgical processes and their abstract modeling to the manual description of complex surgical cases there are different ways to acquire S-WFs. The Workflows themselves are used to answer specific clinical questions, for requirements engineering for software systems or to drive higher level clinical applications.

The tutorial gives an introduction to the field of Surgical Process Modeling and the design of Surgical Workflows. The major steps for successfully using the methodology are presented: Methods for data acquisition and modeling, the generation of surgical workflows and its application to clinical use cases. The speakers give examples from their experience in analyzing over 1000 clinical processes from various surgical domains for different purposes.

Girls' Day 2010: Medizinische Informatik für Mädchen

28. September 2009 Wissensrepräsentation und Patientenmodellierung für computerassistierte Interventionen

Model-guided therapy aims at exploiting all available information, taking advantage of the increased computational power to combine, analyze and present specific patient data related to the complete health state of the subject. The goal is to build a complete model of the specific patient for the specific medical situation to offer specific therapy alternatives. The promise of such model-guided therapy is a more precise diagnosis, better prediction of outcomes, and individualized planning, performance and evaluation of interventions.

To achieve this, the availability of a patient-specific model is necessary. This patient-specific model is an organized collection of all relevant medical and clinical data. The model must be comprehensive, including all information available, but it must also be adaptable, making it possible to support specific clinical workflows. The model must also allow reasoning and must be adaptive, continually incorporating new information and knowledge.

24. September 2009 Workshop on Systems and Architectures for Computer Assisted Interventions (MICCAI 2009, Imperial College, London, UK)

The goal of this workshop is to establish a forum for discussing open interfaces, interoperability, and standards for the development of computer assisted intervention systems. This topic was chosen based on overwhelming interest expressed at the "Systems and Architectures" workshop at MICCAI 2008 in New York City. The workshop will also accept related submissions, such as those describing the development or use of open source toolkits for computer assisted interventions.

24.04.2008 – Girls' Day 2008

Medical Informatics for Girls

ICCAS is contributing to the effort of motivating Girls to the Medical Informatics by giving them a breathtaking insight to applications of computer science to Medicine. Gils from or above 8. Class in Gymnasium are eligible for the event.

At first, you wil be given a short introduction on the Medical Informatics field and its applications in clinics. Then you will be taken to MRT Lab and to a clinical station of Leipzig University in order to show, how the patient care can be improved with the techniques of Informatics.

Finally you will visit the institute, "Innovation Center Computer Assisted Surgery", to see the research work carried on computer assisted surgical systems and some demonstrations prepared by the Researches.
