Therapy Imaging and Model Management System (TIMMS)
The TIMMS research group (Head: Oliver Burgert) objective is to develop and implement a modular reference architecture which is capable of integrating devices of different vendors and diverse modalities. The TIMMS architecture is shown in figure below. Due to its modular architecture, the system must be easily configurable, even for non-technical personnel. The Patient Model, which contains all relevant patient data, must be communicated within and managed by the system. Interfaces to a Workflow Management System allow for a sensible reaction on different intra-operative situations that may arise.
The main characteristics of such a Therapy Imaging and Model Management System are:
- Plug-and-Play Setup and Configuration for ease of use
- System Monitoring and Surveillance to ensure safety and reliability
- Network Infrastructure for transport of Patient Model and device communication
- Standardized Protocols and Interfaces for broad vendor acceptance.
Based on the implementation of these core requirements, clinical applications are developed
which show how advanced modular Surgical Assist Systems can be built from re-usable components based on commonly available hard- and software. To interact with these applications, a TIMMS Visualization Manager is developed which allows for the interaction and the control of various devices from one surgical cockpit.
