Background & Position

Thomas Neumuth is vice director of the Innovation Center Computer Assisted Surgery (ICCAS) at the Medical Faculty of the Universität Leipzig, Germany, and scientific director of the research group “Model-based automation and integration”. He is heading research groups at Medical and Computer Science Faculties in Germany since 2008. Since 2011, he is the scientific director of the research group “Model-based automation and integration” at the Universität Leipzig. Since 2015 he is vice director of ICCAS.

His research topics are focused on the field of model-based medicine, especially therapy process modeling, model management, human-machine interaction, clinical workflow management, and cross disciplinary cooperative decision support systems.

He acquired ~12 Mio € of extra-mural funding from governmental and industrial funding bodies for the research of ICCAS. Furthermore, he implemented the EN ISO 13485 certification for medical software development at ICCAS.

During his career, he has worked with many international project partners. Additionally, he was and is active in many professional societies, such as being a board member of the German Society of Medical Informatics (GMDS).

In addition, he has been giving lectures in the fields of medical engineering, medical informatics and medical innovation management for many years at Medical and Computer Science Faculties in Germany.
