Marianne Maktabi obtains a doctoral degree 30.06.2021
Congratulations go to our long-standing senior researcher Marianne Maktabi for obtaining the academic degree of Dr. rer. med. at the Faculty of Medicine (Leipzig University). Her dissertation addresses the challenges around risk management in the digital operating room and investigates how frequency analysis of surgical workflows can be applied to improve patient safety and reduce resource conflicts during surgical procedures. To this end, Maktabi presents a novel online approach for forecasting both surgeon’s resource usage and the remaining intervention time based on time series analysis and the application of a linear time-varying system. Her research serves the overarching goal of enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of hospitals through automating the resource and time management of their most costly unit – the operating room.
