Intraoperative Multimodal Imaging

claire.chalopin@medizin.uni-leipzig.de

Background and Position

I received my PhD degree in the field of Medical Imaging from the University of Lyon, France. My dissertation topic was on the automatic labelling of the coronary arteries in X-ray angiography based on a 3D topological model. Then, I worked as Research Fellow on the segmentation of focal brain lesions at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany.
In 2005, I joined ICCAS as researcher. In 2016, I developed my own research topic and research group at ICCAS. In 2019, I obtained my habilitation degree in the field of experimental medicine and medical imaging. My topic was the development and clinical evaluation of intraoperative ultrasound imaging and infrared thermography in neurosurgery.

Research Areas

My current research deals with the development of non-invasive imaging-based assistance systems for surgical applications. The focus is on ultrasound imaging to support brain tumour surgery, infrared thermography for planning skin grafts, and hyperspectral imaging for monitoring the patient’s condition and identifying anatomical structures in visceral surgery. In addition to the use, clinical evaluation and improvement of imaging devices for the operating theater, my research group develops innovative and specific algorithms based on artificial intelligence approaches for supporting the interpretation and analysis of the non-standard image data, evaluating this information in close cooperation with clinical partners.
