MR Safe Flexible Biopsy Forceps for Minimally Invasive Tissue Sampling; Subproject: Research of Novel MRI and X-Ray Markers and Development of a Novel MRI-Guided Intervention Technique for Biopsy (MR Biopsy)

The goal of the joint project ‘MR-Biopsy’ is to research a worldwide first MR safe flexible biopsy forceps. This should improve the minimally invasive and image-guided removal of tissue samples without the previous high X-ray and contrast agent exposure.

Endomyocardial biopsy is a procedure for diagnosis of acute myocarditis, tumor or transplant rejection. ICCAS deals with fundamental research of novel MRI and X-ray markers as well as experimental set-ups for the testing of the bioptome. The ultimate objective is to establish a medical workflow for MR-guided endomyocardial biopsies without X-ray exposure. The results might later serve as blueprint for MR-guided biopsies like lung and intestines.
