headline-markerLaunch of the “5G Pacemaker” project

18.04.2023

We are pleased to announce the launch of the 5G Pacemaker project at ICCAS. In this project, we are working with a consortium of leading small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and academia to accelerate the adoption of 5G-based real-time services in medicine.

Real-time services in medicine are desired and required when dealing with time-critical signals from high-risk patients. Radio transmission of information, sensor data or critical control inputs is also desired where reliability is essential. In order to meet real-time requirements in complex environments or mobile scenarios, Time Sensitive Networks (TSN) are to be implemented using 5G and configured and tested accordingly. This is where the project comes in, translating clinical application requirements into Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for the 5G network and configuring appropriate TSN parameters as well as automatically adapting them to changing environmental conditions.

The “5G Pacemaker” project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) and runs from 01.01.2023 to 31.12.2024. The consortium consists of the SMEs airpuls GmbH, highstreet technologies GmbH and InnoRoute as well as the universities TU Chemnitz, Hochschule Osnarbrück and the ICCAS, University of Leipzig.

We are convinced that our project will help to accelerate the introduction of real-time services in medicine in order to save lives. We will keep you informed and look forward to your support in this important endeavor.
