headline-markerSuccessful project finale for 3MP-FUS

04.11.2025

On October 16th, the final meeting of the 3MP-FUS project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space, took place at the Innovation Center Computer Assisted Surgery (ICCAS). Together with VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH and the project partners MRI-STaR GmbH, Localite GmbH, Fraunhofer IBMT, MPI CBS, and ICCAS as consortium leader, the successful completion of the project was celebrated.

The project aimed to make focused ultrasound (FUS) usable as a non-invasive procedure for neuromodulation of deep brain areas. For this purpose, a multimodal, multiparametric, and platform-independent FUS system was developed that can be fully integrated into an MRI environment.

At the final meeting, the fully integrated demonstrator was presented on the 1.5 T Siemens Healthineers MAGNETOM Sola, and the study design for the planned human application on the 3.0 T MAGNETOM Cima.X was presented.

With the successful technical development, the way is now paved for the next step: the transfer of the 3MP FUS system into clinical application, in particular for neuromodulation in dystonia and rare forms of Parkinson’s disease.
