headline-markerNew at Leipzig University: Elective course in disaster medicine to start in the 25/26 WS

05.08.2025

At ICCAS, we are committed to preparing medical students not only for everyday clinical practice, but also for extraordinary situations. We are therefore delighted to be able to offer the elective course in disaster medicine starting in the 2025/26 winter semester.

Disaster medicine means remaining medically capable of acting – even when resources are scarce, many people need help at the same time, or there is a threat from chemical, biological, or radiological substances.
In our course, we impart in-depth knowledge on operational command, hospital management in crises, triage, evacuation, decontamination, medical care in CBRN situations (chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear hazards), and psychosocial support. The theory is supplemented by practical training.
The elective course is led by the Interdisciplinary Internal Intensive Care Medicine department, with the participation of ICCAS team leader Jan Gaebe, who brings his extensive operational experience to the teaching.

We look forward to welcoming all students who are ready to take on responsibility—for patients, teams, and structures in exceptional situations.
You can register for the course here: Universitätsmedizin Leipzig – Studierendenportal
