Background and Position

Abtahi Ishmam studied Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering at the Military
Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Dhaka, Bangladesh, graduating with a Bachelor of
Science degree in 2021. He then completed a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering at
Hochschule Anhalt (Köthen, Germany) in 2025, specializing in the application of machine
learning and advanced processing techniques to biomedical signals and images.
During his master’s studies, he worked as a working student in the New Product Introduction
team at World of Medicine GmbH (Novanta Group, Berlin), focusing on CO₂ insufflator systems.
His responsibilities included risk gap analysis, product feasibility, and cost-performance
optimization. Afterwards, he joined Hochschule Anhalt as a Projektmitarbeiter, contributing to
research on gastric cancer detection from hyperspectral images and supporting teaching in
courses related to machine learning and advanced programming.
Since October 2025, Abtahi Ishmam has been a Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter at the Innovation
Center Computer Assisted Surgery (ICCAS), University of Leipzig, where he works on the
integration of machine learning techniques into multimodal imaging systems for minimal and
non-invasive surgical assistance.
