Im Juli 2017 fand im Leibniz-Institut für Astrophysik in Potsdam ein Workshop statt, der mögliche Kooperationspotenziale der beiden Zentren für Innovationskompetenz (ZIK) „Innovative faseroptische Spektroskopie und Sensorik“ (innoFSPEC Potsdam) und „Computerassistierte Chirurgie“ (ICCAS Leipzig) auslotete. Mit den Schwerpunkten Astrophysik und Spektroskopie seitens innoFSPEC sowie Modellierung und Digitalisierung in der Medizin seitens ICCAS behandeln beide Zentren Forschungsbereiche, die gemeinsam innovative Technologien hervorbringen können. Der gemeinsame Workshop zeigte eine merkliche thematische Überlappung der in den beiden ZIK bearbeiteten Forschungsfelder auf und weckte großes Interesse an der interdisziplinären Entwicklung gemeinsamer Projekte. Der hier gestartete spannende Brainstorming-Prozess soll in Zukunft weiter fortgesetzt und vertieft werden.

Prof. Andreas Melzer is co-organizer and tutor of the Image Guided Therapies (IGT) – Workshop on June 28, 2017, which takes place in the scope of the 10th Hamlyn Symposium on Medical Robotics in London. His session deals with the topic “Ultrasound and MR guided Focused Ultrasound therapy: SONO-RAY”.

Under the motto “Bringing technology to humans” newest developments and trends of the man-machine interaction are presented and discussed at this year’s Future Congress of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in Bonn. The ICCAS is represented with an interactive exhibit of the joint project “BIOPASS” on the theme island “Experimental Learning”. Here, visitors can test a new navigation assistance system for the minimally invasive endoscopc surgery. The system adapts individually to the patient and the current needs and problem-solving strategies of the surgeon.

The SONO-RAY project group leader Dr. Doudou Xu takes part with the following two lectures in the Annual Meeting of the European Society for Hypertermic Oncology (ESHO 2017) in Athens (GR) from 21. – 23.06.: “Hyperthermia induced by ultrasound combined with radiation therapy to improve treatment of cancer” (pg. 82) and “Optimaziation of tumor therapy by combination of fucused ultrasound and ionizing radiation guided by (PET)-MRI” (pg. 93).

This year’s Annual Meeting of the International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery takes place in Aachen from 14.-17.06.2017. Within the framework of the event Prof. Thomas Neumuth chairs the session “OR.NET – interoperability and modular dynamic device-IT interaction in OR and clinic” and presents the topic “Technical approaches and benefits of OR.NET based workflow management”.

Am zweiten Tag des Digital-Gipfels 2017 der Bundesregierung präsentierte das Innovationszentrum für computerassistierte Chirurgie der Bundeskanzlerin Dr. Angela Merkel und weiteren Vertreterinnen und Vertretern aus Politik, Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft die Ergebnisse der fortschreitenden Forschungsarbeiten am „Digitalen Patientenmodell“ und „Intelligenten Operationssaal“.

Prof. Andreas Melzer und Prof. Thomas Neumuth erläuterten den Einsatz von Computertechnik für eine möglichst effiziente und qualitativ hochwertige Patientenversorgung, zum einen bei der optimalen Therapiefindung und zum anderen bei einem chirurgischen Eingriff im Operationssaal.

Auf der diesjährigen Visualisierungskonferenz EuroVis in Barcelona präsentieren Wissenschaftler der DPM-Gruppe die ersten Forschungsergebnisse im Bereich Visualisierung des Digitalen Patientenmodells. Gruppenleiter PD Dr.-Ing. Steffen Oeltze-Jafra ist zudem im Programmkommitee vertreten.
Die Visualisierungsarbeit entstand in enger Kooperation mit der Gesellschaft für Technische Visualistik mbH: GTV, Dresden und der HNO-Klinik des Uniklinikums Leipzig. Eine Veröffentlichung des Papers wird es im Journal „Computer Graphics Forum“ geben.
