At this year’s M2CAI-Workshop ICCAS presents its work on the integrated operating room with the two contributions: ‘Towards the intelligent OR – Implementation of distributed, context-aware automation in an integrated surgical working environment’ and ‘BPMNSIX – A BPMN 2.0 Surgical Intervention Extension’.

The M2CAI-Workshop is a satellite event of the ‘International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Interventions’ (MICCAI). Here, clinicians, researchers and medical companies discuss issues and solutions on the acquisition, analysis, modeling, and monitoring of computer assisted interventions.

headline-marker Start des Meta-ZIKs SONO-RAY

On October 1, 2016, the joint project SONO-RAY organized by the two ZIK Centers of Innovation Competence OncoRay in Dresden and ICCAS in Leipzig started. The project combines MR-guided focused ultrasound and radiation therapy to improve the effectiveness of cancer treatment. Funding totaling €6.2 million is being provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Prof. A. Melzer is the leader of the project.

headline-marker Bürger und Prominenz am ICCAS-Forschungsstand zum Tag der deutschen Wiedervereinigung in Dresden

During the celebrations of the Day of German Unity, many visitors were attracted by the common stand of the University Medicine Dresden and Leipzig. ICCAS presented itself with a mobile version of the ‘Intelligent Operating Room’. Guests could simulate ENT surgery on a phantom head in interaction with the innovative assistant systems. Many interesting conversations were held with interested citizens and representatives from the Government of the Free State of Saxony. State Premier Stanislaw Tillich and State Minister for Arts and Sciences Dr. Eva-Maria Stange were among the guests in the festival tent.

This year, the 28th Conference of the international Society for Medical Innovation and Technology (SMIT 2016) takes place from Oct. 05-08 in Delft (the Netherlands). There will be ICCAS-lectures in the special session ‘Intelligent Operating Room’ on Friday (Oct. 7, 2016) from 10:30 bis 12:00 am.
A mobile version of ICCAS’s „Intelligent Operating Room“ can be experienced at the exhibition.

and German Societies of Biomedical Engineering (BMT) ICCAS presents results of current research about technical devices and systems for surgical interventions in its “Special Session on Computer-Assisted Procedures“. Furthermore, Prof. Andreas Melzer is represented in the committees of experts on „Medical technology in MRT“ and „Ultrasound“.

Saxony and its capital Dresden are hosts of this year’s central celebrations of German Unity Day. On this occasion Leipzig University Medicine presents itself on the mile “Science and Research” with hands-on science. Anyone who wants to find out more about how the intelligent operating room of the future works can come at the ICCAS-stand and slip into the role of a surgeon. A mobile OR-version and a phantom head make it possible for guests to test themselves use cases from ENT surgery in interaction with the special technology.

From Sep. 29 until Oct. 01, 2016 ICCAS will be represented at the Annual Conference of the German Society for Computer and Robotic Assisted Surgery (CURAC) in Bern (Switzerland). Last week, ICCAS’s 3rd Digital Operating Room Summer School took place. The internationally oriented course familiarized about 20 participants latest computer-assisted OR-technolgy from the object of research until the direct use on the patient.

Computer scientists, engineers and medics from Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Turkey, Italy, China, Japan and India experienced an inspiring week with many practical sessions. The well filled programm kept its promise – interesting expert lectures, followed by practical exercises partly on patient phantoms and visits to state-of-the-art operating theaters and labs of Leipzig University Hospital and Heart Center Leipzig.

The participants praised the good balance between clinical and technical aspects as well as the theoretical explanations and practical sessions. The whole course was certified with 57 credits by the national authority ‘Sächsische Landesärztekammer’ and with 33 European CME-credits (EACCME®). Next year there will be one more DORS.

They can expact an instructive week full of practical workshops on computer-assisted interventions and exciting visits to modern intervention techologies in Leipzig University Hospital and Heart Center Leipzig.
