headline-marker ICCAS Open Days beeindruckten Besucher

June 22, 2016

On June 20 and 21, ICCAS opened the doors to provide interested parties an insight into its research developments, especially in the future operating room. The many visitors from different medical fields were impressed by the technical progress which already marks the future of computer aided assistances in the operating room. Some of them used the chance to test the highly innovative technology themselves.

Furthermore, the ICCAS-guests were amazed by the spectrum of scientific themes. Thus, the researchers depicted further project developments, such as the digital patient model – a support system for patient-specific therapy decisions, the Cephalens – an assistance system for the minimally invasive neurosurgery and infrared thermography for applications in plastic surgery.

ICCAS thanks all guests for their interest, exchange and activity and looks forward to meeting again.

headline-marker Delegation palästinensischer Professoren zu Gast am ICCAS

June 20, 2016

25 Palestinian professors who currently participate in the „International Scientific-Practical Workshop“ within the scope of the EU-study programme Erasmus+ at the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences visited ICCAS yesterday. The guests informed themselves about ways of the knowledge transfer from clinic into research and the innovation transfer from research into industry. At the center of interest were the fully networked demo-operating theater with its state of the art technique and the research work on the digital patient model.

The EU – inter-university cooperation programme supports the collaboration with the EU neighbouring regions and strengthens the modernisation and reform of the foreign universities’ Higher Education.

headline-marker Girls’Day am ICCAS

April 29, 2006

Due to the nationwide Girls’Day – the largest project for giving schoolgirls guidance on a job – ICCAS welcomed 12 girls from the 8th-10th grades on 28th of April. The visitors came from schools in Saxony and Saxony Anhalt to inform themselves about career opportunities in the fields of medical informatics. Their hosts were the Institute for Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology (IMISE), the Clinic and Policlinic for Gastroenterology and Rheumatology at the Leipzig University Hospital and ICCAS.

At ICCAS the girls met female scientists who spoke about their work- and study experiences in the male domain and introduced their research activities. After a visit of the Demo-OR the female pupils got the possibility to put their hands on medical assistance systems such as an ultrasonic device and a milling machine for temporal bone operations. Afterwards they found themselves in fascinating pictures produced by a combination of 3D- and thermal imaging camera – a technique to measure the temperature of skin areas for plastic surgery.

headline-marker Abschlusspräsentation des Leuchtturmprojektes OR.Net auf der conhIT

April 29, 2016

Visitors of this year’s major event Connecting Healthcare IT (conhIT) could experience the operating room of the future at close quarters at the impressive OR.Net exhibition booth. There, the results of the joint research of nationwide over 80 partner institutions from industry, clinic and science were presented. They have been brought together in an operating room where medical devices of various producers can communicate in real time with each other, with the surgeon and with the IT-infrastructure of the hospital. The visitors also included the Federal Minister of Education and Research Johanna Wanka, who praised the results. Besides the positive effects such as patient safety and improved stress management she expressed her hopes for advantages for innovative small and medium-sized enterprises and especially for hospitals. In future they can more flexible integrate devices of various producers in their operating rooms.

In the course of the finished project a user association was founded. Its deputy chairman is Professor Thomas Neumuth (ICCAS). The association strives for bilateral relations with small and medium-sized enterprises and activities at the international level.

After the conhIT the demonstration of the first vendor-independent, fully networked operating theater will continue to experience at the ICCAS. For all those who have not seen the OR yet, ICCAS will open its doors on June 20 and 21, 2016.
